Apple Beta Software Release
Apple recently released their beta versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11 and macOS Sequoia. We are testing internally to ensure LogTen's compatibility with Apple's newest OSs. Whilst we do not anticipate any issues, these versions are pre-release software, intended for development purposes only, and we cannot guarantee full functionality. LogTen will be updated in the fall to fully support these new versions once they are released to the general public.
LogTen's 2 Generation Policy
Our policy is to support the two most recent generations of Apple operating systems on the Mac, iPhone, and iPad. This means that currently, LogTen is tested compatible with:
- macOS 13 "Ventura" and macOS 14 "Sonoma"
- iOS: 16 & 17
- iPadOS: 16 & 17
- watchOS: 9 & 10
The app may still work with older operating systems, but we can only guarantee full functionality with the 2 most recent releases. To download LogTen for the first time, you must be running one of the last two generations of Apple operating systems.
For every version of the system we want to support, we have to maintain devices and development tools for building and testing LogTen on that system. With 99% of customers using either the current system or one revision back, it’s not practical to invest the huge amount of time and effort required to ensure compatibility with systems older than that.
Apple is constantly updating its operating systems and it's important to keep up to date with the latest system, both for users and developers. New system updates don’t just add great new features, they ensure the safety and security of your data. By keeping up to date we can all take advantage of the latest technology in terms of the speed at which LogTen operates and the features it offers pilots.
If you are still using an earlier operating system on your device, we highly recommend taking advantage of the free updates offered by Apple.
Silicon Macs
LogTen now offers native support for Apple Silicon M1 Mac computers, significantly improving performance for customers with the latest Apple processors.
Speaking of Apple products...
LogTen is Apple Only
LogTen is only available on Apple products and is only sold via the App Store. If you are wondering why we do not support Android or Windows below is our explanation:
Technically… At Coradine our goal is to provide the best possible user experience for pilots, which is why we choose to develop for Apple platforms. Because of this goal, and our belief that Apple devices provide the most reliable and easy-to-use system available, LogTen leverages powerful frameworks provided solely by the macOS and iOS operating systems.
Philosophically…
We seriously considered developing a Windows or Android version, but ultimately decided it is more important to do what we love. Because of this passion, we can focus on delivering excellence, with pride, rather than simply doing something for the money. I have spent over 20 years developing software for the Mac, and there is a reason: unparalleled user experience. Developing LogTen Pro for Windows or Android would mean a complete rewrite of the application, taking time and resources away from our primary goal of providing the best possible experience for all of our current and future users. While I understand that bringing LogTen to other platforms could dramatically increase revenue, the cost to the quality of our products, the ability to provide excellent service, the love of our jobs, and the pride we take would ultimately outweigh the monetary gain.
I started Coradine so I could turn my passions into independence. Because the fruits of these passions are recognized and appreciated by our customers I am finally able to do what I enjoy. Endangering these passions by developing platforms that do not inspire me endangers all that I strive for in Coradine, and that is a sacrifice I will not make.
That might be more than you wanted to know, but I hope you understand. It’s a little like telling a pilot they should become a bus driver because there are a lot more buses in the world… it may be similar, and it may get you from point A to point B, but it sure isn’t the same!! There’s a reason we fly, and for most of us it’s not just the destination, it’s the journey…
